The incident happened overnight near the Roscoe Boulevard exit from the 405 North.
The coroner says the driver in the car died.
Crews were able to put out the fire that spread to nearby trees.
A CHP officer involved was also hurt. She appeared to be alert and was taken to the hospital.
Officers say they initially tried to pull over the driver for speeding.
Crews Tackle Large Commercial Fire In Van Nuys Area Syndicated Local – CBS Los Angeles
VAN NUYS (CBSLA) Fire crews were battling a large structure fire in Van Nuys on Friday night.
The blaze was burning in a central unit of a row of commercial businesses in the 7900 block of Haskell Avenue, just south of Roscoe Boulevard near the 405 Freeway, in Van Nuys, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
There was no word of any injuries or the cause of the fire.
At last check, crews seemed to have gotten the flames under control, but there was still considerable smoke coming from the building.
CANOGA PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) A Winnetka mother of four was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash in Canoga Park, and police are asking for the public s help in finding the driver responsible.
The 46-year-old woman was hit near Roscoe Boulevard and Lurline Avenue around 5 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities said she was found on the street along the north curb of Roscoe Boulevard with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Though authorities did not officially identify the woman, her fiancé identified her as Lorena Ponce. He said she had recently been let go from her job and has been in a state of depression. He believes that may have contributed to what happened.
