Ann Margret will always be my favorite entertainer from Bob Hope s USO tours

This post is an expanded narrative of a previous Christmas Spirit music post, which included Silent Night from the Bob Hope USO tours.The video at the bottom is a different video which includes some of Bob s routine. Here is a link to that post. In my entire 71 years of living, I have only missed one Christmas with my family. That was in 1968. Now not a Christmas goes by that I don t remember that one Christmas far away. Thanks to Bob. Ann and a half a million brothers, I was not alone. Bobby Tony Ann Margret was one of the head liners along with Rosey Grier. She was born in Sweden in 1941. Her father immigrated to the US in 1942. Ann and her mother moved to the United States in 1946 and they joined her father. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1949.

Former Athlete Rafer Johnson, Country Musician Charley Pride, both 86

Black America lost two of its iconic figures this month. Both born in 1934, Rafer Lewis Johnson died of a stroke on December 2 in Los Angeles and Charley Frank Pride was a COVID-19 victim who succumbed on December 12 in Dallas, Texas. Both men were athletes, Johnson an Olympic decathlete, and Pride was once a pitcher in the Negro Leagues. Born in Texas, Johnson moved with his family to the San Joaquin Valley town of Kingsburg and became a high school sports phenomenon while picking cotton with his father and siblings. Johnson was a silver medalist in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, and a gold medalist in Rome in 1960, the same year Wilma Rudolph, Muhammed Ali, and Oscar Roberson competed.
