Almost 14 months later, Lopez now unified WBA ‘Super’, WBO, IBF and WBC Franchise champion was vocal in his support for his former foe ringside at the MGM Grand Conference Center, Las Vegas on Saturday night and after Commey blew away Jackson Marinez in six rounds, the Brooklynite was visibly elated.

The return of former lightweight champion Richard Commey was a big boom. Commey s blistering right hook nearly knocked Jackson Marinez through the ropes as Commey secured a sixth-round knockout victory Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Commey (30-3, 27 KOs) stalked Marinez (19-2, 7 KOs) in the early rounds, using his strength to bully Marinez around the ring, while Marinez tried to keep Commey away by flashing superior boxing skills. But the 33-year-old Commey was a man on a mission, fighting for his country of Ghana in his first bout in 14 months.

Richard Commey moved into a main event on ESPN as a result of the Joe Smith-Maxim Vlasov postponement Thursday.
Commey and Jackson Marinez will now headline the network’s tripleheader Saturday night in a 10-round lightweight fight at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas. The former IBF lightweight champion still feels for Smith and Vlasov, who tested positive for COVID-19 following a full training camp for their light heavyweight title fight.
“It’s always sad when you put all the hard work in and then, you know what I mean, at the last minute, you can’t fight,” Commey said during a press conference Thursday at MGM Grand. “It sucks. Excuse my language. It really hurts, but I feel for them because I’m a boxer as well. If it happened to me, I would feel very bad. But I pray that [Vlasov] will recover fast and then they get a chance to fight again.”
