ROME, N.Y. – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, R-21, is introducing new legislation to help communities build and maintain military memorials.
Tenney was in Rome Tuesday to announce the new bill, called the Remembering Our Local Heroes Act. According to the congresswoman, the bill will establish a grant program to assist communities with the construction, restoration, or maintenance of memorials honoring veterans, active-duty military personnel, law enforcement, and firefighters.
The grants are authorized for up to $100,000, and will be awarded to applicants who can secure matching funds from other sources.
