Imola is a challenging race circuit in the dry, and a treacherous one in the wet, with the F1 drivers experiencing both track conditions across the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend – and with some dramatic consequences.
Ultimately, it would be Max Verstappen’s supreme start from P3 on the grid that secured him the victory.
But other drivers had a less enjoyable time of it over the race weekend, with eventual P2 finisher Lewis Hamilton surviving an off-track moment at Tosa midway through the race, Yuki Tsunoda suffering a spin-filled first Imola outing, while George Russell and Valtteri Bottas made headlines for all the wrong reasons after their dramatic Lap 32 coming together.

Helmut Marko did not mince his words when he assessed Yuki Tsunoda’s 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend, in the wake of the Alpha Tauri rookie crashing out of Q1 in qualifying on Saturday and compromising his race.
Three weeks earlier, in Bahrain Tsunoda wowed all wi but at Imola, they nosedived as he crashed down to earth when he speared the wall during his first qualifying run.
Red Bull’s driver manager Marko was not impressed with Tsunoda’s mishap and told media after the race: “Yuki had a fast car in his hands, which would certainly have allowed him to reach Q3 in qualifying.

Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto can breathe easier after the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in which Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished fourth and fifth respectively confirming, at least, the Reds have a far better car than last year.
However, as good as it was on home soil yesterday, they were still a far way from the top step of the podium as race winner Max Verstappen in the Red Bull crossed the line 25 seconds ahead of the best red car.
Ferrari headlined their post-Imola report: “Good points haul but a hint of disappointment.”
On a day that started wet and ended dry, Leclerc delivered a gutsy and spirited performance that has become his trademark, at one stage he was second with a hefty advantage over Norris in third.
