By • 7 Apr 2021 CLOCKING ON: Roger Peat gives the Shepherd’s Hut, at The Witham, a new lick of paint A DEDICATED group of volunteers dubbed “The Workers” are back in business and have begun carrying out odd jobs around Barnard Castle. After an enforced absence due to the pandemic, the volunteers were last week helping prepare The Witham for its reopening. Benches were being sanded down, weeds removed from the rear paths and garden and the Shepherd’s Hut was given a new lick of paint ready to welcome visitors when the easing of restrictions allows. The workers first began to help keep the Barney looking spick and span about four years ago, with the town’s former deputy mayor Roger Peat co-ordinating their efforts. Although Mr Peat has since left the town council, he continues to help organise the group s efforts.
