Dodson comments on House approval of KDOL overhaul, endorsement deals for college athletes

Dodson comments on House approval of KDOL overhaul, endorsement deals for college athletes 67th District House Rep. Mike Dodson (R-Manhattan) House Bill 2196 The Kansas Legislature has cleared one hurdle to overhaul the state labor department. The House voted 87-36 vote Thursday on House Bill 2196, largely on partisan lines. Among the supporters, 67th District Rep. Mike Dodson (R-Manhattan), says the bill will establish an independent board to oversee the Kansas Department of Labor. “You’ve got to have people who know what they’re doing providing oversight and then we have to make sure that they put the money, and we’ve provided that, into the IT. We all know what happened because the IT system was so bad, when they tried to get all the checks out they had so much fraud that it just kind of backed up,” he said.

Highland discusses energy concerns, House bill to correct problems within KDOL

Highland discusses energy concerns, House bill to correct problems within KDOL Kansans learned quickly this past week just how vulnerable the power grid is. An unusually strong winter blast forced consumption rates of electricity, gas and water to skyrocket, forcing utility companies into rolling power outages, at the request of the Southwest Power Pool, the grid that covers 14 states primarily in the Great Plains, including Kansas. 51st District Rep. Ron Highland of Wamego joined KMAN Friday morning during his legislative update. He says it’s apparent energy companies can’t rely too much on renewable energy just yet. “The wind turbines, when it gets really cold can’t turn, they turn off and the same is true when they get real hot. We have to be cognizant of that,” he said. “It was cloudy for an extended period of time, so the solar panels weren’t doing anything either.”

So after we had gone through all [that], he died. Nearly a decade later, Imthurn is still pushing for change. She hopes Kansas House Bill 2004, named Charlie s Bill, will pass this legislative session and put into statute the right for assisted living facility residents to appeal an involuntary discharge. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Ron Highland, R-Wamego, had a previous attempt last year but died in a COVID-19-shortened session.
