Bucks, Montgomery County hospitals work to expand COVID vaccine rollout

Pennsylvania’s decision to expand early access to coronavirus vaccines has confused the public and forced hospitals to create priority groups within priority groups, healthcare providers said this week. Hospitals statewide are looking at a pool of potentially 3.5 million eligible recipients in Phase 1A, and the available supply of vaccines just doesn’t add up, said Andy Carter, president of the Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania.  “Since mid-December, hospitals and community health centers have worked diligently to vaccinate our health care heroes. That work continues,” said Carter. “Looking ahead, this public health effort must expand to include more pharmacies, doctors’ offices, and community-based vaccine clinics,” he continued. “But we need the supply to meet this mission.”

Pennsylvania vaccine providers don t have vaccines

The front door was ajar and no lights or employees were visible inside the Knights Road Pharmacy, an official Pennsylvania vaccine provider, according to the state health department.   The pharmacy did not appear to be open for business and no one answered the phone after multiple calls to the number listed outside the property Thursday. Recently, the Pennsylvania Health Department began directing residents to local pharmacies and medical centers for vaccines. Maps and lists appear on state and county websites. Yet many of those locations said they don’t have vaccines to distribute and don’t know when they might receive such medications.

Cheryl Kimball Nature Talks: The joy of adding to my bird life list at the end of the year

WHEW. I ENDED the year having added to my life list. The snow bunting, check. As I mentioned in my last column, I got word that snow buntings had been seen at Sea Point Beach but I did not see one on a trek there. It may have been as much as a half hour after I got home that I saw a Facebook post on a photographer’s page (Ron Watson Photography) that included a gorgeous photo of a great horned owl and mention that he had seen a flock of snow buntings that afternoon. I was jealous and disappointed in my inability to spot one of these birds that apparently everyone else was seeing. I commented and the photographer kindly told me where he sees a flock often. I headed to Rye Harbor State Park at the next opportunity.

Petitto, Republican Executive Committee appeal Harrison County Commission s dismissal of election challenge to circuit court

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — The Harrison County Republican Executive Committee and the Republican candidate for Harrison County Commission have filed an appeal of the commission’s dismissal of their petition challenging the November election. The appeal, filed Tuesday in Harrison County Circuit Court by candidate Mickey Petitto and Republican Executive Committee Chair Virginia Rockwell without an attorney, alleges the commission took an “illegal vote to dismiss” the challenge in violation of the state’s open meetings laws. The commission voted 2-to-1, with Commissioners Ron Watson and Patsy Trecost in favor and Commissioner David Hinkle against, to dismiss the complaint, which alleged mishandling of absentee ballots.
