Man charged with drugs, weapons offenses
A Timmins man has been charged with a number of weapons and drug possession offences stemming from an incident that occurred during Saturday afternoon in the downtown core of Timmins.

While completing patrols of an assigned patrol zone, a Timmins Police Service officer recognized a pedestrian at the intersection of Maple Street and Algonquin Boulevard as being a person currently named in an arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police.

While the Porcupine Health Unit is still waiting for final test results on two suspected “variant” cases of COVID-19, there is a degree of certainty both of these will turn out to be positive cases.
“We do expect these to be positive because they are related to a variant of concern outbreak in another community,” Dr. Lianne Catton, medical officer of health for the Porcupine Health Unit.

The suspect variant cases involve a pair of Timmins residents.
“We are still awaiting confirmation from the third and final test which is the whole genome sequencing which can take up to 14 days,” Catton explained.
