And although the Gainesville Community Playhouse has already managed some live performances, it’s been under restrictive conditions that should, hopefully, begin to loosen.
“We’re starting off nice and small, one singer and one piano player,” Stephanie Lynge, The Hipp’s artistic director, says of the upcoming production of “By the Light of the Silvery Screen.”
With Hipp regular Bryan Mercer tickling the ivories and Laura Hodos on vocals, the Hipp’s first live performance is less a play than a nightclub act . a little song, a little dance.
“We’re excited to be able to get started,” says Lynge, of the production scheduled to run June 4-6 on The Hipp’s main stage. “Everybody will be fully vaccinated. We can seat up to 89 people and still do social distancing.
