Suite Talk: Traditional methods of leadership may no longer work, says Lenovo's GM, Ronnie Lee

Published: 15 March 2021 Ronnie Lee, General Manager, Lenovo Singapore, oversees Lenovo’s Personal Computers and Smart Devices business. Passionate about nurturing talent through empowerment and facilitation, he tells Aditi Sharma Kalra how he achieves this. Q Having spent your career in the tech sector, with IBM, HP and Lenovo, what excites you most about this industry? Technology is the driving force behind many of the activities we do every single day – from the moment we wake up to the time we head to bed. Over the past year, technology has become more pervasive, not just as an entertainment source, but has now become crucial for necessary practices such as work and study. There are no two days which are the same when it comes to technology and that keeps me excited. Every day presents new opportunities for growth, new inventions and innovations, and new ways to leverage on technology meaningfully.

In line with International Women’s Day 2021, the team at Human Resources Online has put together a series of 22 stories under two distinct concepts with the overarching theme of #ChooseToChallenge to inspire organisations and leaders to push for a gender-equal society, by showcasing what their peers are doing in this area. This second part of our series focuses on the second concept - our individual thoughts and action.  We believe that as individuals, we are all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – at work and at home. As people leaders at work and role models at home, the impacts of our actions are amplified through our influence on others.

January 25, 2021 Reuters Phase 3 is here, but are businesses really ready for it? When Covid-19 struck, it took us all by surprise. Even as businesses and Governments took unprecedented steps and implemented a Circuit Breaker (CB), meaning employees had to get used to what is now being called the “ New Normal ”. As we began to Work- From- Home (WFH), we began to embrace tools like Zoom and Microsoft’s Teams as webcams and stable Internet access became increasingly important and overseas travel became a fond memory. Eric Goh, Vice President & Managing Director, Singapore, Dell Technologies said that Dell expects that 60 per cent of their workforce will stay remote or have a hybrid schedule where they work from home most of the time. So collaboration tools will be critical in ensuring a smooth transition to the hybrid work culture.
