As far as restomods go, oftentimes it’s easy to tell the car’s performance based on its appearance. However, you’d probably never guess that this 1956 Pontiac Star Chief “The Chief” actually cranks out a whopping 900 hp (912 PS / 671 kW).
The car was built by Customs by Kilkeary, and the total cost of the build is said to be in the ballpark of $1 million. Some may be skeptical of that price, but when there’s this much custom work going on, things start to get expensive fast.
The chassis, for instance, was custom designed by Roadster Shop and the body was completely stripped before it was repainted in its current deep blue shade. It also has clever touches like Harley-Davidson headlights and a relocated fuel door behind the taillight, as well as a smaller steering wheel that’s designed to look exactly like the original. That’s barely scratching the surface on all this car’s little details, but it’s precisely those things that set this build apart.

It s a fully custom 1956 Pontiac Star Chief, a classy and pretty unusual convertible from that era. In those years, Pontiac was trying to shake off the dull but dependable image by creating dream cars with more lavish trim than the equivalent Chevy models.
In case you re curious about the name, the Pontiac range was split into low-end Chieftain, mid-price Super Chief on the shorter chassis, and Star Chief on the longer 124-inch wheelbase. Back then, brands didn t have a wide variety of models like they do today, and it was basically up to the different brands within a company to offer diversity.
