One of Gladstone’s oldest hotels is calling on trades to submit tenders for an up to $500,000 refurbishment of the premises.
Formerly known as the Commercial Hotel, the Reef Hotel is one of the port city’s most popular licensed venues and the owner, the Ganim family, is giving it a make over.
The premises, on the corner of Goondoon and Yarroon Streets, was first established in 1856, and has undergone a number of refurbishments to get to its current state.
In June 2014, the Star Hotel Group took over the day-to-day management of the Reef Hotel on behalf of the Ganim family.

Hundreds more apprenticeships and traineeships will be created across Central Queensland, according to Federal Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd under the $1.2bn Boosting Apprenticeships program.
The Federal Government announced the expansion of the targeted wage subsidy program on Tuesday as part of the National Economic Recovery Plan.

He said now the program would become demand driven for the next 12 months for apprentices and trainees signed up before September 30, 2021.

Installing a large solar system has resulted in a Gladstone business becoming carbon neutral and returning excess electricity generated, back to the grid.
Gladstone Business Centre has fulfilled a long-held dream now its 16kw solar system was connected to the electricity grid by a local electrician.
Managing director Phil Douglass said the 50-panel system was installed in January, and connected to the electricity grid last week.
“I thought about solar power and being carbon neutral some time ago and it has come to fruition,” he said.
“We installed the system as we wanted to promote a carbon neutral enterprise.

The Somerset Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that took place around 2 p.m. Tuesday. No one was seriously injured in the incident, but it did result in the arrest of one man for possessing a firearm despite having a Domestic Violence Order against him prohibiting that.
The incident took place at a Ringgold Road residence.
According to the SPD, officers arrived on scene to find Rodney Stevens, 41, with a gunshot wound near his ankle. He told officers the wound came from Justin Walters, 22 of Somerset.
Detective Larry Patterson learned that Walters and Stevens, who lives with Waltersâ mother, got into a verbal altercation shortly after Walters arrived at the residence.
