ATLANTA An Atlanta Police officer is being surrounded by family and his brothers and sisters on the police force after he was shot during an ambush Tuesday afternoon in Midtown, authorities said.
Police Chief Rodney Bryant held a news conference from Grady Hospital about the officer s condition.

Atlanta Police have not released the name of the officer. However, Chief Bryant said the officer has been with the department for about two years.

Police Chief Rodney Bryant was appointed to the role full-time last month after holding the position on an interim basis for most of the previous year. At one point this year, violent crime was up 60% over the same time in 2020, but Bryant says the crime rate is dropping daily as the department implements its summer plan.
