SpongeBob spinoff The Patrick Star Show gets series order from Nickelodeon
Last year it was announced that development was underway on
The Patrick Star Show, and now we have word that Nickelodeon has given the official greenlight to the
SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff series with a 13-episode order. The official description reads:
The Patrick Star Show follows a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom. His little sister, Squidina, works behind the scenes to make sure Patrick’s show is always running smoothly, while his parents, Bunny and Cecil and his grandpa, GrandPat, each support Patrick in their own hilariously absurd ways. The Star family’s unpredictable adventures often inform, integrate, and sometimes even interfere with Patrick’s TV show, but one thing is for sure: his bizarre life always makes for great television!
‘Sponge on the Run’ is silly, absurd and an absolute delight

Simple: more.
“The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” is the third full-length feature starring the friendly, goofy sponge and his underwater friends and neighbors from Bikini Bottom from the long-running TV series. Written and directed by Tim Hill, it is just as silly, goofy, absurd, nonsensical and utterly delightful as the rest of the catalog.
“Do I smell a road trip?” SpongeBob asks near the beginning of the film.
“That could be my breath,” his best friend Patrick replies. If you think that’s funny, welcome aboard. If you don’t? Boy have you wandered into the wrong movie review.

Paramount Home Entertainment presents a film written and directed by Tim Hill. Rated PG (for rude humor, some thematic elements, and mild language). Running time: 91 minutes. Available now on Paramount+ and on demand.

The movie, now streaming on Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) and on demand, starts with an introduction to Bikini Bottom and its residents for the uninitiated. There’s SpongeBob (voice of Tom Kenny), of course, along with the sweetly stupid Patrick (Bill Fagerbakke), constant whiner Squidward (Rodger Bumpass), greedy boss Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown) and scientist squirrel Sandy (Carolyn Lawrence).

Brian Robbins walked into a meeting where executives were deciding whether kids-media giant Nickelodeon should pick up “SpongeBob SquarePants” for a twelfth cycle, and asked what he thought was a simple question: With so many characters populating the underwater city of Bikini Bottom, how come the network had never created any spin-offs?
More from Variety
Fans will get to see another part of the always optimistic sea sponge’s world soon. The ViacomCBS unit has greenlit 13 episodes of a family-oriented comedy featuring SpongeBob’s pal, Patrick Star. “The Patrick Star Show” is slated to debut this summer, and will focus on a younger version of the character, who hosts a TV program and lives with his family. Bill Fagerbakke, the longtime voice of the animated pink starfish, will play the title role.
