QUONSET, RI After a tentative date was scheduled for June, the Rhode Island National Guard announced this week that this year s Open House Air Show will again be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Maj. Gen. Christopher Callahan, the Rhode Island National guard s Adjutant General, said it was a difficult decision to cancel the event that means so much to the public. We explored a number of alternatives, but after careful consideration we determined there was no safe way to host this beloved event and deliver that same experience that makes it so cherished, Callahan said.

PROVIDENCE, MA Police and authorities in Rhode Island have heightened security near the Rhode Island State House Sunday, in preparation for protests. Two dozen federal troops and at least four armored Humvees are patrolling the downtown streets at the Rhode Island State House, according to a Twitter user with the handle @RealAlTheGreat and several others tweeting near Smith Hill.
Last week s attack on the U.S. Capitol, had law enforcement on high alert about security across the country State Police Col. James Manni said in a statement earlier this week in an effort to reassure residents.
Joe Rodio, Jr.
Incoming Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee announced on Tuesday the selection of Joseph Rodio Jr. as Chairman of his transition team.
Rodio is an attorney at the Providence-based law firm, Rodio & Ursillo. Rodio currently serves as legal counsel to the Lt. Governor’s Office and previously worked with McKee during his time as Mayor of Cumberland.
The junior Rodio is a graduate of Penn State and Northeastern University Law School.
McKee’s spokesperson for the transition team is the long-time public relations pro Michael Trainor.
Pandemic Briefing
According to Trainor, on Sunday, McKee received an initial virtual briefing from members of the state COVID response team. The team highlighted the latest updates on the virus management strategy, hospital capacity and vaccination rollout.
