RI lawmakers call for Trump ouster

PROVIDENCE  The Rhode Island Senate on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a resolution condemning the violent invasion of the U.S. Capitol last week and calling for President Donald Trump’s removal from office. The state House of Representatives is expected to follow suit when it convenes next week, a day ahead of President-elect Joseph Biden s inauguration. Freshman Rep. Brandon Potter, D-Cranston, sponsored the House resolution. Leaders across America should be demanding accountability from those who participated in this seditious act, starting with the person who incited it: Donald Trump,” said Potter, who has also called for the resignation of state Republican Rep. Justin Price of Richmond.

Veteran TV reporter Bill Rappleye dies of cancer PROVIDENCE  Bill Rappleye, a political reporter for almost 18 years with WJAR Channel 10, passed away from cancer Thursday. He was 66. His death was confirmed in a statement from Rhode Island’s public television station, WSBE, where Rappleye moved in January of last year to work on longer-form investigative projects, and where he was the co-host of Rhode Island PBS Weekly. “We mourn this profound personal and professional loss,” said David W. Piccerelli, president of Rhode Island PBS.  “Bill had an incredible passion for his profession and was a well-respected journalist known for his integrity. Our deepest condolences go out to Bill’s family. We share their sadness, as Bill was an important member of our Rhode Island PBS family.”
