John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the NDC in the 2020 election, got his Election Petition dismissed by the Supreme Court of Ghana for lack of merit.
In the two-hour judgement of the seven-member panel delivered by Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah last Thursday, March 4, the Justices identified some loopholes in the answers of Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Principal Witness One, when the latter was cross-examined.
The Chief Justice describing Johnson Asiedu Nketia as the ‘star witness’ for the Petitioner, John Dramani Mahama stated that the Petitioner was not in “Court to challenge the validity of the figures or data presented by the Chairperson of 1st Respondent that is why in his testimony, he did not provide any data to contradict that of the 1st Respondent.”

A member of President Akufo-Addo’s legal team says their decision not to present any witnesses in the ongoing election petition case should not be misconstrued as an attempt to evade cross-examination by lead counsel for the petitioner.
Speaking to Evans Mensah on Top Story, Nana Adjoa Adobea Asante stated that subsequent to the testimony of Rojo Mettle-Nunoo, the petitioner’s third witness, the legal teams of the 1st and 2nd respondents made it known to the court that they do not intend to present a witness before the court.
Nana Adobea Asante stated that the strategy taken by their legal team is for their witnesses not to testify, especially considering that the burden of proof lies on the petitioner, Mr Mahama and not on the respondents.

NATIONAL ADDRESS BY H.E. JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA, 2020 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS AFTER THE SUPREME COURT JUDGMENT ON THE 2020 ELECTION PETITION
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,
Earlier today, the Supreme Court of Ghana delivered its verdict on a petition we filed against the declaration made on the evening of 9th December 2020 by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mrs. Jean Mensa, on the Presidential Elections of December 7, 2020.
My brothers and sisters, I did not take the decision to go to court lightly. In fact, many were those who expressed misgivings about my decision, not because we did not have a strong case, but because of the times we live in.
Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has revealed how much cost he had incurred for legal representation in the 2020 Election Petition.
According to him, his legal team represented him in the Petition Case, free of charge.
He made this revelation in a media encounter few hours after the Election Petition Verdict.
“I also want to put on record that the services rendered to me by my legal team in the election petition was gratis meaning free of charge.”
In his address to the media, he expressed his gratitude to his witnesses, Asiedu Nketiah, Dr. Kpessa-Whyte and Rojo Mettle-Nunoo for “unravelling a part of the untold story of the flawed election” as well as his legal team for their hard work.
