GAS Let’s work together to eliminate the use of gas Ignoring any political spin, it just seems sensible and natural to eliminate the use of gas for heating, cooking, hot water or barbecues (TheAge, 5/5). Collection of trading tokens - including ones minted in year of famous 1666 blaze - to fetch £20,000

A collection of battered 17th century trading tokens, including ones minted in the year of the Great Fire of London in 1666, could fetch £20,000 at auction.   Roger Green, who is from Kent, spent 35 years collecting the tokens on the muddy banks of the River Thames. They were issued by traders instead of money due to a lack of available small change at the time. Many of the money tokens bear the names of the traders who once issued them, including Walter and William .   The entire collection is expected to fetch between £15,000 and £20,000 when it is sold at Hansons Auctioneers, in Derbyshire, later this month.

Post Florida 2021 Legislative Session Analysis

Flickr State lawmakers ended Florida’s 2021 annual legislative session, Friday, after passing a record $101.5 billion budget. Much of Governor Ron DeSantis’ priority measures did pass during this year’s session, including the so-called “anti-rioting bill,” which is already facing a federal lawsuit. Other victories for DeSantis include passage of a bill imposing new restrictions on voting by mail-in ballot. Results of Governor DeSantis’ campaign to crack down on Big Tech were a mixed bag: A proposal imposing sweeping new restrictions on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter did pass, but lawmakers ended the session without passing a consumer data privacy bill that aimed to allow Floridians to regain ownership of their personal information collected by companies.

Roger Green, a British writer who has lived on the island since the early 90s, says some older islanders are afraid to leave their homes. “The vaccination process has passed us by,” he said. “I know people like me who are in their eighties and are afraid to go out at all. We’re not complainers, we love Greece but for most foreigners here, at least, the system isn’t working.”
