£718,000 for affordable homes in South Cumbria

£718,000 for affordable homes in South Cumbria 23/12/2020 An ambitious scheme to provide much-needed affordable housing in a village community has been backed to the tune of £718,244 through grants approved by South Lakeland District Council. The authority has agreed a scheme grant of £350,000 and an infrastructure grant of £368,244 to the Levens Community Project. The money has come from the council’s Community Housing Fund, set up after the Government provided £2.36m to the authority in 2017 to help tackle the problem of high levels of second home ownership. The fund can be used to enable the delivery of new community-led housing schemes through new build, reuse of existing buildings and bringing empty homes back into use.

Two corporate coverups: Amazon on coronavirus data, Uber on sexual assault

AP SACRAMENTO, Calif. California officials aren’t pulling punches when it comes to going after big corporate capitalists who harm workers, even though it’s the holiday season. The state’s latest moves: Taking on Amazon for not providing coronavirus pandemic data, and fining notorious “gig economy” employer Uber $59 million for not dealing with sexual assault and sexual harassment on the job. The firms’ actions, slammed by Attorney General Xavier Becerra and a three-judge Public Utilities Commission panel, don’t surprise the California Labor Federation, Communications Director Steve Smith e-mailed. He also said the state fed would work with both the AG’s office and the PUC on the issues.

Principles of Effective Cybersecurity Wargames - Infosecurity Magazine

Principles of Effective Cybersecurity Wargames Expert cybersecurity practitioners are intensely aware of how complex the field may seem to less experienced colleagues. An effective cyber defense function, for example, requires colleagues with technical expertise as well as colleagues a genuine understanding of the threat landscape, adversarial tactics, cyber strategy, and essential related concepts including legal or reputational impact of a cyber incident. Conveying these ideas through training and education too often relies on the transfer of facts without context, in which users often may not genuinely understand why certain cybersecurity behaviors are more useful than others. The use of serious games highlights a promising and engaging avenue to educate users with facts placed into an appropriate and relevant context.
