Dunedin Police have confirmed a rugby player of significance was involved in an incident at Vault 21 around 2.30am on Sunday.
Police were notified of the allegations on Sunday, but officers did not attend the incident.
Highlanders chief executive Roger Clark is aware of the incident and the club will investigate.
Star named the 24-year-old Maori All Black on its bench for its round four Southland premier game against Blues on Saturday. However, on the day of the game, McHugh was told by Selby-Rickit that he wasn’t able to play. McHugh claims Selby-Rickit, who had been attached to the Star club since 2017, had been given clearance from the Highlanders to play, but that changed after Rugby Southland got involved on Friday. Mitchell said that was not the case. Mitchell said he did contact Highlanders chief executive Roger Clark on Friday night asking if Clark was aware that Selby-Rickit planned to play in Southland the next day.

The Highlanders head coach will depart prior to the start of Super Rugby Transtasman.
He will complete two weeks of self-isolation, before linking with Jamie Joseph for a 14-day training camp with the Japan national team.
“I will be in touch with Clarke [Dermody] and the other coaches on a daily basis and I am positive they will respond well to the situation.” Brown will offer input remotely, but effectively hands over the reins to assistant coach Clarke Dermody, who is being groomed to take over at the Highlanders when Brown’s contract runs out at the end of 2022. Brown said Japan’s match with the Lions in Edinburgh on June 26 had only recently been finalised, meaning that he needs to head to Japan with coach Jamie Joseph straight away to head into two weeks self-isolation before a 14-day training camp for the Brave Blossoms.

Brown will leave the franchise immediately to link up with Jamie Joseph to help prepare the Brave Blossoms for their international against the British and Irish Lions in early July.
The Japanese take on the British and Irish Lions in Edinburgh on June 26, the match serving as a warmup for the Lions prior to their tour of South Africa beginning in early July.
Brown who will still have daily input into the running of the Highlanders, albeit remotely, will hand over the reins on the ground to his assistant Clarke Dermody. He acknowledged the situation is far from ideal.
