Plans have been submitted for a replacement building at Littleborough Community Primary School, which is approaching the end of its lifespan and is deemed ‘no longer fit for purpose’.
It comes after the Calderbrook Road school was named as one of the first 50 in the country to benefit from government’s school rebuilding programme.
The government will stump up £220,000 with the council providing £500,000 and a further £250,000 in reserve in case costs run over.
The proposed two-storey building would boast 14 classrooms as well as a hall, library and multi-use games area (MUGA).

The energy and regeneration specialist is to retrofit 20 buildings across the borough as part of the Goverment’s drive to cut emissions across public sector estates.
In March, a conditional £78.3m was awarded to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority by Kwasi Kwarteng, Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, to administer the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme across the ten boroughs.
GMCA and its partners will be expected to undertake retrofit works to improve the carbon efficiency of public assets.
Rochdale Council submitted an application on 23 November 2020 for the decarbonisation of 10 corporate buildings, including leisure centres, and 10 schools, amounting to around £11m.
