Vaccination appointments rescheduled as supply problems hit borough Date published: 07 January 2021 The vaccine is typically delivered by a simple injection in the shoulder People in Rochdale have had their coronavirus jab appointments rescheduled this week due to a delay in the delivery of the vaccine. Residents over 80 years of age, and health and care workers are currently being invited for immunisation at one of the borough’s three vaccination hubs at Number One Riverside, Heywood Phoenix Centre and Middleton Health Centre. To date more than 3,000 first doses have been administered in the borough. However, supply problems have meant a number of appointments scheduled for this week have had to be rearranged.

Covid-19 cases in Rochdale have started to rise again following the Christmas period. Data released today (Wednesday 6 January) shows a 52% increase in the number of cases in just 7 days after Christmas Day. In the week 26 December to 1 January, 695 people in the borough tested positive for coronavirus, an increase of 235 people from the week prior. For the week ending 1 January the positive case rate for the borough was 312 cases per 100,000 people, up from 205 cases per 100,000 people for the week ending 25 December. The national average for the period ending 1 January across England was 481 cases per 100,000 people and the average for Greater Manchester was 320 cases per 100,000.

Winners of HMR Primary Care Academy Awards Date published: 31 December 2020 Heywood Health with their award The winners of this year’s HMR Primary Care Academy Awards have been named following a virtual event on 17 December. The awards are designed to celebrate and recognise the work of the primary care workforce within Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale. Accolades were presented across eight different categories, including Covid Heroes, Clinician of the Year and the Most Inspiring Manager. One member of staff said: “Everybody welcomed the event and we had some lovely comments about it. Most said the awards were needed to boost morale.”

Rochdale News | News Headlines | Second covid-19 community vaccination site to open

The borough’s second community vaccination centre is set to open in Heywood on Tuesday 29 December. The site, at the Phoenix Centre in Church Street, Heywood, will administer Covid-19 vaccinations to eligible residents as part of the biggest vaccination programme in NHS history. Local people aged 80 and over as well as people who work in care homes and health care workers will be invited to attend for their vaccination appointment at the centre, which will operate every day between 8am and 6pm when vaccinations are taking place. When it is your turn to receive the vaccine you will be contacted by Rochdale Health Alliance or your GP surgery. If you re not registered with a GP, you will need to register with one.
