Rochester, MN (KROC AM) - Rochester will soon begin looking for a new leader of the city’s public library.
Longtime Director Audrey Betcher announced her retirement Wednesday. She will officially step down early next year.

“says the pandemic gave her a new perspective on what she wants to do in the coming years. I’m ready to spend time with family and friends, and do more traveling and exploring. I also have a few volunteer opportunities to keep me busy.”

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Director of the Rochester Public Library is retiring.
Audrey Betcher announced Wednesday she will be stepping down in early 2022 after leading the library for more than 20 years.
“I’m ready to spend time with family and friends, and do more traveling and exploring,” says Betcher. “I also have a few volunteer opportunities to keep me busy.”
Betcher started at the library in 1996 and is credited with helping guide the organization through significant changes. According to Betcher, “We were still loaning out VHS tapes, audio cassettes, and vinyl records in 1996.”
Audrey Betcher has led award-winning library for more than two decades.

Audrey Betcher has announced her retirement, after more than two decades as director of the Rochester Public Library.
She broke the news Wednesday, nearly 25 years after joining the library staff, with 21 of those years spent leading the organization.
“I’m ready to spend time with family and friends, and do more traveling and exploring,” she said in a statement released by the city.

Free comic book day is Saturday, August 14 and Rochester is ready to celebrate. Rochester’s Free Comic Book Day is organized by Jetpack Comics & Games, but many local businesses join the fun and celebration according to city officials. It’s just what we need, a day of fun. Free Comic Book Day is a worldwide event celebrated each year in May but due to pandemic restrictions, this year it has been moved to August 14.
Expect the unexpected. There will be lots of free comic books to take home and enjoy. There will be a Comic Book Scavenger Hunt that will go on from 10 am till 4 pm. Don your favorite comic book character costume for a costume contest at 4:30 pm on at the Garage at the Governor’s Inn. Local businesses that are slated to participate in the day’s festivities is Red Alert Skate Shop, Union Street Antiques, Collectiques, the Rochester Public Library among others.
