No towns in red, according to state data

Aidan Pollard Feb 27, 2021 Despite new cases of covid increasing in Marion and Mattapoisett this week, all three towns have shifted down from a “red” designation in the state’s color-coded risk designation system.  New cases in Marion and Mattapoisett rose this week, with 17 new cases in Marion and 11 in Mattapoisett. Last week, Marion had 14 new cases and Mattapoisett had two.  Despite the increase in cases in both towns, Marion shifted from a “red” designation to “yellow” and Mattapoisett shifted from “yellow” to “green”  In the state’s color-coded risk designation system, less than or equal to 10 cases designates the community as gray, between 10 an 15 cases puts a community in green, less than or equal to 25 cases marks a town as yellow, and communities with more than 25 cases are designated as red.

Jacqueline Marie (Parker) Beckford, 75

Feb 16, 2021 Jacqueline Marie (Parker) Beckford, 75, of Marion,  passed away at home with her children by her side on Feb. 6, 2021, four days after her 75th birthday.   Jacqueline was born on Feb. 2, 1946 in Darby, PA to Alice (Carpenter) & LCDR Francis Parker.  As a child she loved to vacation in Harpswell, ME with her family.  She played tennis, enjoyed swimming and won many trophies from her days on the basketball court.   After graduating from Melbourne High, she moved to Melrose, MA.  There she met the love of her life, the late George W. Beckford, Sr., who asked her to marry him on their first date. They were married within the year and enjoyed 54+ years of marriage. They went on to have four children whom she cherished. Jacqui dedicated her life to her family, children and precious grandchildren. She enjoyed riding on the back of her husband’s Harley and had fond memories of trips to Lake Winnipesauke, Maine and Quebec.

Covid case drop continues

Old Rochester district reaches 100 covid cases

Jan 6, 2021 The Old Rochester Regional School District announced has reached 100 total cases of covid since its Sept. 16 reopening.  The district announced its 99th through 105th cases in press releases on Jan. 6. The new cases were found in Sippican School, Old Rochester Regional High School and Rochester Memorial School.  The 105-case total is a reflection of all the cases which have been contracted by students, faculty and staff at the district not the number of active cases currently in the district.  The individuals who tested positive for the virus at Sippican School, ORRHS and Rochester Memorial were last in school on Dec. 23. The district’s holiday break ran from Dec. 24 to Jan. 3, indicating that the cases were spread within the community.
