Open source software development is booming in Nigeria

She Code Africa meetup Nigeria had the highest percentage growth of open source contributors in 2020, according to GitHub. Successful Nigerian startups like Flutterwave and Paystack (acquired by Stripe) are encouraging young people to pursue careers in tech.  The demand for tech is growing, developer communities are emerging, and companies like Facebook are investing heavily in the region. When Nigerian developer Gift Egwuenu first started learning computer science as a student in 2012, she felt isolated: She was learning on her own most of the time, she told Insider.  But that changed in 2018 when she dove into the world of open source and discovered Nigeria s bustling developer community. As she learned the programming language JavaScript, she found thousands of Nigerian developers on GitHub and started contributing to projects there herself.

Qualtrics poaches 3 execs from Salesforce, Adobe, Twilio ahead of IPO

Qualtrics has hired three senior executives to bolster its leadership and experience management teams in preparation for an IPO.  Julia Anas, formerly of Adobe, will serve as chief people officer. Twilio s Edward Chen is the new head of corporate development and strategy. Salesforce comms veteran Gina Sheibley has been named chief communications officer.  Earlier this week, long-time Microsoft veteran Brad Anderson announced that he will also join Qualtrics as president of products and services. Qualtrics was days away from an IPO in 2018 before SAP swooped in and bought it for $8 billion. Now, its upcoming IPO could value the company over $14 billion.
