SAN ANTONIO After months of delays and debate, the San Antonio City Council approved a revamped version of the plan to remake Alamo Plaza in a meeting Thursday.
One of the big issues with the plan was the debate over whether to move the famous Alamo Cenotaph. The revised plan approved by the Alamo City Advisory Council called for repairs to the Cenotaph but not move it down Alamo Street. Portions of that road would close from Houston to Crockett by June 1, only allowing access to commercial vehicles and first responders.

The polarizing issues of homelessness, police reform and redevelopment of the Alamo are among those animating the City Council race in District 1, where Councilman Roberto Treviño is seeking re-election to a final term and attempting to fend off five challengers.
Most of Treviño’s opponents in the downtown district have never held an elected office. Only Lauro Bustamante, 70, has won a past race; the attorney was elected to the board of the Edwards Aquifer Authority in 2006 but has since left the post.

SAN ANTONIO – With less than a month before the May 1 election, a KSAT analysis of campaign finance records shows that the incumbents running for reelection, including the mayor and San Antonio’s City Council members, have more funds at their disposal than their challengers.
With several crowded races on the ballot more than 80 candidates are running for 11 seats and hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions and expenditures, some of the races might be too close to call on election night and could be headed to overtime in the form of a runoff election.
