The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted 14 to 0, with one recusal, on Wednesday to support the two-dose vaccine’s emergency authorization after it was cleared by the Food and Drug Administration on Monday. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky must now sign off on the recommendation before it becomes final.
The vaccine could be deployed to teens as soon as Thursday in a move that’s long been anticipated as paving the way for the mass vaccination of middle and high-school students before the next school year begins.

President Joe Biden will trade ideas with U.S. governors about how to vaccinate more Americans, after the number of people signing up for shots fell sharply over the last month.
Biden will meet today virtually with the leaders of Massachusetts, Utah, Ohio, New Mexico, Maine and Minnesota to discuss âinnovative ways governors are working to get the people in their states vaccinated,â White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.
Biden has said the country has entered a new phase of its vaccination campaign as domestic demand weakens. The U.S. is administering about 2.1 million shots per day, down from 3.4 million shots about a month ago, even though thereâs enough supply to give more.

A mounting call for health officials to relax rules about outdoor mask wearing could soon lead to one of the most significant changes in virus guidelines since the U.S. first told Americans to don face coverings to curb the spread of Covid-19.

And with the U.S. averaging 2.74 million vaccine doses daily, with a total of 231 million given out overall, even some public health experts are calling for less strict guidelines as warmer weather arrives.

President Joe Biden called on employers to use a tax credit to provide paid time off to workers to get vaccinated and for businesses to do more to boost the inoculation effort as the U.S. seeks to get shots in more arms.
Biden touted the U.S. achieving its goal of giving 200 million vaccine shots in his first 100 days in office, while also pivoting to a new phase of the campaign by calling on businesses to make vaccination as accessible as possible. He requested all employers in the U.S. to offer full pay to workers to get a shot, and touted an incentive included in his first Covid-19 relief package that provides tax credits for workersâ wages in companies with fewer than 500 employees.
