VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Saint Catherine’s parish of Valley City will kick off their Lenten mission Sunday. March 7th at 6:30 pm and each evening through Wednesday, March 10th.
The theme is “Living the Eucharistic Life”. The guest speaker is Father Jim Kubicki. The public is welcome to attend these evening presentations at St. Catherine’s in Valley City.
Fr. Kubicki has written two books, “A Heart on Fire: Rediscovering Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus” and his second “A Year of Daily Offerings”.
In 2017, he became the Director of St. Francis Mission on the Rosebud Reservation in western South Dakota. The full interview is available below.

“That’s essentially how we’re raised. So, although a lot of our language and our ceremonies were wiped out, we still retained our Lakota way of life. Of caring for one another because like our late Aunt Roslie Little Thunder would say, “every day, every day get up and think about what you can do for those around you. Think about the collective and how to survive.” That’s always been ingrained in us. So, when it came to this pandemic, it was no question that we were gonna do what we could,’” Alex Romero says.

Artist Cora-Allan Wickliffe is reviving the ancient Niuean art of hiapo. She talks to Dionne Christian about why family and community are at the heart of all she does. Making hiapo - traditional Niuean bark cloth painting – takes time and energy. First, you strip bark from an ata tree, pulling it off in large pieces and taking care not to make holes in it. Then you might soak it for up to a week or spend hours beating it with an ike, a wooden hand tool which softens and expands the bark.

The schedule for the COVID vaccine is being opened up to the community, meaning if you meet the established criteria, then you can:
Phone to schedule an appointment
Present to a mass vaccination clinic at the Rosebud Hospital every Thursday
Present when the clinics are scheduled in your community
The health service will continue to focus on 1a, 1b, and 1c with high risk health conditions, but will open the schedule to any person that would like the COVID vaccine and meets the criteria listed below.
