A woman has been charged with high-range drink driving after she was allegedly caught more than six and a half times over the legal limit in the Hunter. Police received a tip off from the public, after the woman was reportedly seen driving a black Audi in a dangerous manner. Officers say they stopped the vehicle after they saw the car swerve and hit a gutter on Nelson Bay Road at Williamtown. The 31-year-old returned a positive roadside breath test and was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station. She underwent a breath analysis and allegedly returned a reading of 0.337.

Man extradited from Queensland over axe assault in the Hunter July 22, 2021 A man has been extradited from Queensland over an axe assault in the Hunter region. Police say just before 8pm last Tuesday, July 13, a 28-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man were at a home on Alliance Street East Maitland, when five people arrived and an argument broke out.  It will be alleged in court the 28-year-old woman was assaulted and the 35-year-old man was struck several times with a tomahawk. The injured man contacted emergency services while the group left the scene.’ The 35-year-old was later taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment to injuries to his back; he has since been released.

A third man will face court today over an alleged assault where a man was struck several times with a tomahawk in the Hunter region last week. Detectives from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District, assisted by officers from the Queensland Police Service, travelled to the Sunshine Coast and arrested a 23-year-old man about 3pm on Tuesday. On July 13, a 28-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man were assaulted inside their home on Alliance Street, East Maitland. The man was struck several times with a tomahawk. He contacted emergency services, while the group left the scene. The 35-year-old was taken to John Hunter Hospital for back injuries; he’s since been released.
