Colorado Parks and Wildlife to launch gray wolf reintroduction eNewsletter

Gray wolf appearances have been confirmed in Moffat County, and lone wolf has been spotted in Jackson County near Walden. (File photo) Looking to reach as many residents as possible, Colorado Parks and Wildlife plans on rolling out a new gray wolf reintroduction eNewsletter in the coming months in hopes of keeping people up-to-date and included in the reintroduction process. “As the agency begins the planning and implementation process for reintroducing gray wolves to the state, we are dedicated to keeping the public informed and engaged throughout the process. This means frequent updates to our website, social media channels and this new eNews,” a CPW news release states.

Shadow Lake sees winter fish die off

Shadow Lake City Park has experienced a winter die-off of some of its fish, which has raised concerns from local residents. Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesperson Randy Hampton said an aquatic biologist and the area’s district wildlife manager visited the lake, which is located in the Redlands, and determined that the fish kill was due to winter weather. The city of Grand Junction has been planning utility work in the area, but Hampton said there was no evidence, like blockage of the gills, to suggest the fish were killed by the work. “The lake will freeze and if it freezes too deep it messes with oxygen and fish can die,” Hampton said. “It happened last year. We did have fish kill out there last year as well.”
