Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer charged with murder in the death of a black man that set off nationwide protests last summer, was found guilty Tuesday on all counts.
Chauvin, who is white, was seen on video pinning Floyd to the ground with his knee for more than nine minutes after police responded to a report that Floyd used a counterfeit $20 bill.
Protests across the Southern Tier were peaceful in the wake of Floyd s death, but officials were still prepared for trouble in the event of a not guilty finding.
For some community leaders, the immediate reaction to the ultimate verdict was relief.
