Right-wing extremists stage 'meme war' to attract Trump fans

HOUSTON    Far-right leaders across the nation disillusioned by former President Trump’s defeat and banished from mainstream social media have launched recruitment drives in new radicalization efforts that have turned into a “meme war” among groups such as the Boogaloo Bois, the Proud Boys and the Three Percenters. In the days following the Capitol riot, right-wing extremists who lost Parler accounts or were suspended from Facebook and Twitter migrated to Telegram and gained a following of tens of thousands of Trump supporters looking to vent anger and promote extremist views. The groups are competing for a surge of new users on alternative platforms while refocusing their messages on militant nationalism, white supremacy and conspiracy theories.

Steuben County, NY legislature extends term limits to 20 years

Legislators debate resolution that pushed term limits to 20 years The Evening Tribune BATH Faced with an unexpected budget crunch in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the economy, Steuben County legislators turned to the past for guidance.  Offering early retirement to county employees was floated as a way to help get through the worst of the pandemic. District 1 legislator Gary Swackhamer, a Hornell Republican, was on the board the last time the remedy was used to replenish county coffers.  “It worked real good before, and it worked good this time. We didn’t have to lay people off,” Swackhamer said. “That was a question, had we done it before? The legislators that were on at that time could give you an idea what the results were.”

Partners Christian imagery loomed large on Jan. 6 as the “Stop the Steal” rally morphed into a mob siege. A group of Trump supporters prayed around a large wooden cross, and others carried “Jesus saves” signs and yelled “shout if you love Jesus” as they occupied the Capitol building. Meanwhile the Christian flag – the red, white and blue emblem designed by a New York City Sunday school teacher in 1887 to unite and symbolize Christians worldwide – was one of the flags carried through the Capitol.
