Women s Summit returning in March

The Women s Summit Seminar Series, starts March 8, (International Woman s Day) and continues throughout the month of March. Everyday Heroes is a non-profit group with an aim to promote locally owned businesses owned by female entrepreneurs in the Parkland Area of Saskatchewan. This event is a seminar series featuring local women entrepreneurs who are sharing the knowledge they have gained in their respective industries. The goal is to provide enlightenment so that we may all collectively grow. Cook said going online with this year s event really opens the doors in terms of attendance. It will open it up to whoever wants to attend, she said, adding in the past the event has had limited seating and we always sold out and had a waiting list.

Organization rebrands as Hospitality Saskatchewan

Locally, the move is seen as a positive one. Tourism Yorkton is pleased to see the new Hospitality Saskatchewan and looks forward to working with the industry on advocacy, collaboration and education, offered TY Executive Director Randy Goulden. The tourism industry has been heavily impacted by COVID-19 and now will need to work together to recover and market the sector to visitors and residents. Juanita Polegi, Executive Director with the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce also sees the move as a good one for the sector. Yorkton and surrounding area enjoys a variety of attractions to visitors – ranging from our beautiful landscapes and wildlife to a diversity of cultural experiences, she noted, adding, An organization such as Hospitality Saskatchewan will be a strong advocate for the entire hospitality and tourism sector.

Decision On Whether 2021 Yorkton Film Festival Will Be Open to the Public or Held Virtually Will Be Made in March

By Ryan Young The deadline for submissions for the 2021 Yorkton Film Festival is January 31st. Executive Director Randy Goulden says they’ve already had quite a few submissions for the May 27th to 30th event. She says they’re just a little over what they usually get at this time of the process, so they’re pleased. As for whether the festival will be open to the public, or held virtually again, Goulden says a decision will be made in March. “Our board will be looking at that probably mid-February to see where we are in the process. We will be talking with other festivals that are dated for around that time to see what we’re doing collectively to keep our industry safe.” Goulden explained.

Yellowhead Highway reps approved by Council

The four were approved by Yorkton Council at its regular meeting Monday. The Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway Association is a four province, non-profit association which was established in 1947 to promote the development, maintenance and use of the Yellowhead Corridor as vital to Canada’s national transportation and national unity. Their mandate is advocacy for the development, maintenance and enhancement of the Yellowhead Highway, and promotion of its benefits and assets to industry, tourists, governments and communities, explained Hippsley in making the recommendations. The City of Yorkton holds a membership in the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway Association. Councillor Randy Goulden had been appointed as the City of Yorkton’s representative since 2012. Councillor Goulden has indicated that she is willing to continue to serve in this capacity for the 2020-2024 Council term.
