As The Queen celebrates her 95th birthday privately today, still in an official period of Royal mourning for the Duke of Edinburgh, she will no doubt be dressed in her off-duty, country-elegant staples of a cardigan, skirt and silk scarf.
But it is striking that the regal uniform to which she’ll return when official duties resume has remained largely unchanged for almost sixty years. It’s a look which has served her through countless tours, official engagements, church services, weddings and, as we saw on Saturday, even funerals.
