HIQA gives Minister electronic health record proposals
HIQA found the introduction of a summary care record in Ireland is ‘widely supported’
The Hospital In-Patient Enquiry (HIPE) scheme is an unsuitable model to base any national electronic patient summary on because it only records patient information from the public system, the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) advises.
A national electronic patient summary – also known as a summary care record – was included the Sláintecare Implementation Plan (2018) as a key requirement in the Government’s proposed overhaul of the health system.
A commitment to introduce summary care records also featured in the terms of agreement between the Department of Health, the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) regarding the new contract for general practitioners (GPs).
