BAKER CITY â The attorney for Shawn Quentin Greenwood, the Vale man accused of murdering a woman in Baker City in January 2020, has filed a motion seeking to dismiss criminal charges because several phone calls from the Baker County Jail between Greenwood and the attorney in 2020 were allegedly recorded, and that officers from the Baker City Police Department allegedly listened to the recordings.
James A. Schaeffer, a La Grande attorney, filed the motion June 25, 2021.
Schaeffer writes in the motion that criminal charges against Greenwood, including first-degree murder, should be dismissed âdue to the serious and egregious constitutional violation of law enforcement listening to communications protected by the attorney/client privilege.â

PORTLAND, Ore. No state is more emblematic of deepening political and cultural divisions in America than Oregon, where a movement is underway in the state’s more conservative southern and eastern counties to break away from the radically leftist urban centers in the northwest and become part of an enlarged Idaho.
Such efforts have been around for decades as divisions sizzled under the surface. Each side sees the other with a growing contempt, as leftists in the state capitol, Salem, rule with a legislative supermajority and, increasingly, no regard for their neighbors in largely rural eastern Oregon. In that part of the state, the imposition of what many consider to be alien values has met increasing resentment and now, proposed separation.
Riverside Fire
What started out as a small fire near the Riverside Campground suddenly turned into a large blaze along the Clackamas River of Sept. 8, 2020. Fifteen campgrounds, five trailheads, and nearly 33 miles of trail were damaged or destroyed during the fire. according to USDA. The fire mostly impacted the Mt. Hood National Forest.

Archie Creek Fire
The Archie Creek Fire burned east of Roseburg in the North Umpqua corridor on state, private and federal land, according to InciWeb. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it was largely fueled by a combination of high winds, hot temperatures, and dry timber and grass/scrub. The fire was part of Oregon s historic Labor Day fires in 2020.
