It was back to the academy for Barry Lewtas’ men following on from their win over Southampton last time out, with four changes made for the visit of Brighton.
Owen Beck, Luis Longstaff, Ben Woodburn and Leighton Clarkson were injected back into the XI after their training block with Jurgen Klopp‘s first team, adding experience back into the lineup.
But the game got off to a wobbly start as the Reds were punished for a moment of poor judgement, with Remi Savage pressured from behind and playing a soft back pass which fell to Evan Ferguson, who smashed his effort into the top corner.

Andy Kelly Liverpool U23s suffered a 4-1 home defeat against Derby County on a disappointing afternoon at the Kirkby Academy on Sunday.
The visitors struck three times during the first half of the Premier League 2 contest to leave the Reds with much work to do.
Derby then increased their advantage after the break, meaning Remi Savage’s late header represented only a consolation for the home team.
Barry Lewtas’ charges had fashioned the game’s first chance when Jake Cain’s corner was headed narrowly wide by captain Ben Woodburn.

Sepp van den Berg is set to be the next Liverpool youngster to leave on loan this month, with clubs in England, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland all interested.
It has been a muted year-and-a-half since Van den Berg became the first of four signings for the Reds in a quiet summer of 2019, with the Dutchman struggling to meet expectations.
This season has seen the centre-back – still only 19 – largely train with and play for the under-23s, with nine appearances at academy level so far, while he has been an unused substitute for the first team only once.

Spurs had taken the lead in the contest after two minutes through Jubril Okedina before Millar netted an equaliser in the 10th minute.
