Brandon Butler, bbutler@driftwoodoutdoors.com The summer of 2021 is going to be all about road trips. After living through lockdown last year, just about everyone is ready for an adventure. Many of those are going to involve fishing and hunting. A lot of outdoor recreation equipment companies have experienced record sales over the last year. Now those consumers are ready to put their toys to use. A study recently released by the vacation rental house website VRBO states, “Families are making up for travel time lost during the pandemic. According to VRBO, 82% of families have vacation plans for this year, evidence of that pent-up demand for travel.”

New archery range to open for the public

New archery range to open for the public BENTON (WSIL) -Rend Lake now has a new archery range that opens to the public this weekend. The range has a different levels of distance as well as an elevated platform you can practice from. You can also walk down their new trail where you can find different kinds of targets in the woods. The range is open to the public, free of charge, and very unique to the area. You ve got a free area that is available to the public to use. Nothing that is anywhere around here is like it. And you have the opportunity to spend time with your family and create new memories here at Rend Lake, doing the archery, the trail, or if you re into mountain biking or want to try it, these areas allow that for you, said Tim Biscoff, a Park Ranger with the Core of Engineers.

IHSA Bass Fishing Tournament is Back | Alton Daily News

WBGZ Radio 4/30/2021 | By RFD Radio Network The Illinois High School Association sponsors sports for high school students along with activities like debate, chess, and bass fishing.  The IHSA state tournament series in bass fishing returns this year after being wiped out last spring due to the pandemic.  More two dozen schools in southwestern Illinois take part including Marquette, Edwardsville, Granite City, Fr. McGivney, and Bunker Hill. This year, 289 schools are entered with 25 sectionals throughout the state taking place May 6 says the IHSA’s Kurt Gibson: Click for comment here Coffeen Lake and Rend Lake will be the host sites for the schools from our area.  The IHSA state bass fishing champ will be crowned May 22 at Carlyle Lake.  The first year for the state tournament series was in 2009.  Highland has won team championships in 2012 and 2019 while Fr. McGivney won in 2015.
