The Tampa Bay Rays open a three-game series Friday against the New York Mets at Tropicana Field. And the Rays probably are happy to welcome the National League East leaders to St. Petersburg, Fla. That’s because the Rays just wrapped up a three-game series with the New York Yankees, who are in the midst of a COVID-19 outbreak.
New York Yankees Report 8 âBreakthroughâ COVID Cases By Ralph Ellis
May 14, 2021 The New York Yankees have reported eight âvaccine breakthroughâ cases, in which a person tests positive for COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated, including shortstop Gleyber Torres.
Torres, three coaches and four members of the support staff tested positive. All eight received the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the team said on its Major League Baseball website. Only one person is showing symptoms, the team said.
Torres was held out of the game Wednesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg, FL, because his COVID test results were pending, the Yankees said. He was later confirmed to have tested positive.
The Pittsburgh Pirates said on Friday that they will no longer require fans who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to wear a facemask while at PNC Park.
Fans who are not yet fully vaccinated must continue to wear a facemask while at PNC Park as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Next week, the Pirates said they plan to announce details regarding capacity increases for the remainder of the season and further adjustments to the health and safety protocols at PNC Park.
âWe are excited to be able to quickly adjust our facemask policy, consistent with the Department of Healthâs announcement. This is another huge step in our return to normalcy here in Pittsburgh,â Pirates president Travis Williams said.
