Presidents Day Weekend 2021: 7 fun things to do in the Bay Area

Anne Schrager February 11, 2021Updated: February 16, 2021, 7:11 am Each year Valentine’s Day and Presidents Day are kissing cousins on the calendar. The federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February celebrates our first president, George Washington, and all the presidents who’ve led our country. San Francisco’s City Hall typically celebrates the holiday by illuminating the building in red, white and blue. The schedule varies from year to year, but look up and see if you can catch it if you’re driving around the area after dark. This year’s three-day weekend also celebrates the start of Lunar New Year (Feb. 12) and love’s holiday on Feb. 14, with long-standing traditions such as San Francisco Beer Week shifting toward virtual and safe, social distanced options. The Chronicle Wine Competition’s Public Tasting event, usually held over the long weekend, will not take place this year but the annual wine competition is on track and awards are set

Why anyone is anti-Covid vaccine really is beyond me

Of course it’s down to the care and programmes being administered by the NHS despite it being on its last legs, clinging on like the tooth of a seven-year-old attached to one last dangly bit of gum while the child continues to wiggle and niggle it a bit more each day. Despite it all the staffing and infrastructure of our NHS have pulled together to make it happen with swift execution. Everything else we have been promised to fight this pandemic has been badly trusted to private companies often with more than a vested interest in money making for the Conservatives.

The very parents who had all the time in the world to create lavishly-themed packed lunches and continue to work full time, pick the kids up from school, wear size 10 dresses shown off for pictures on beautifully pastel coloured front doorsteps, husbands with high powered jobs who still managed to be present at all family activities, never showing an ounce of an argument and basically living the perfect, creative, crafty, wonderful life.

Vaccine frustration: Waits are long for COVID-19 vaccination

The Chronicle-Express PENN YAN – Last Monday, when COVID-19 vaccinations were opened to eligible people in Phase 1B as well as Phase 1A, Sarah Davis of Penn Yan started trying to get an appointment for her 84-year-old mother, Ruth. She quickly became frustrated. Davis began by going to the New York State Department of Health (DOH) website and used the “Am I Eligible” feature to find possible locations. What she found was a list of sites stretching from Penn Yan all the way down to New York City, and the list changed each time she checked it. She then went to the individual websites of counties surrounding Yates, but all of their appointments were full.
