Big Band Drag

Steve Conlin When one thinks about drag, what often comes to mind is the great divas of the pop realm. But drag is a broadly-applicable performance style, and can be applied to all sorts of musical genres and pop-culture tropes. And, it turns out, when drag meets rock n roll, it s a match made in heaven. Or at least, that s what local drag queen Marrlo Suzzanne is hoping to show with his new project, Marrlo Suzanne and The Galaxy Band. Before I even started drag, I wanted to start a band, says Suzzanne of his recently outfitted musical project. The desire struck after seeing the theatrics of the ska punk band Reel Big Fish as a teen. Their high energy left an impression that immediately made Suzzanne start wondering how to start a band of his own. But he had no answer, despite experience in piano playing, marching band and choir.

FWC adds species to angler recognition program By FWC - | Apr 14, 2021 PHOTO PROVIDED Dennis Triana with a vermillion snapper. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and its saltwater angler recognition program, Catch a Florida Memory, recently added two new qualifying Reel Big Fish. Anglers can now earn recognition for vermilion snapper and saltwater catfish. To qualify for a Reel Big Fish achievement, a fish must reach or exceed the qualifying length listed for each species in youth (under age 16) or adult categories. The qualifying length for vermilion snapper is 17 inches for adults and 13 inches for youth; the length for saltwater catfish gafftopsail or hardhead is 22 inches for adults and 16 inches for youth. All catches must be photographed over a qualifying measuring device clearly showing the exact full length of the fish; a photo of the fish with the angler submitting the catch is also required.

Craft beer history celebrated in Brewmance documentary

For Christo Brock, there isn t all that much of a difference between directing a documentary film and concocting a fine craft beer. That much is evident from his new movie, the beer industry celebration Brewmance. The film looks at the history of the American craft beer world while following two start-up California operations: Ten Mile Brewing from Dan Sundstrom and his son Jesse, and Liberation Brewing, co-founded by former Reel Big Fish trombone player Dan Regan. “One of the things I try to do in my films is I try to make them layered and complex, said Brock. So there’s the subject, which is craft beer. Then you have the history stuff. Then you have a father/son story. You have the story of an ex-rock star and his friends, and there’s the story of just starting a business. And I think (it s) like a very tasty, well-balanced craft beer that has all these different layers and things going on.
