Sandwell solution to lockdown loneliness - sharing a good book

ONLINE book readings are just one of the things being offered under a new scheme to reduce isolation across Sandwell. The Libraries and Archive Service is launching a new Reading Friends project aimed at connecting people and reducing loneliness. It will include a new telephone reading group, one-to-one telephone conversations with Reading Befrienders, and online book readings for all ages which will be showcased on the library service’s Facebook page. It’s free to join and open to all adults. The Libraries Service is receiving funding from The Reading Agency to enable the start of a Reading Friends programme.

Dementia memory bags including books, poems and artefacts available at Denbighshire libraries

MEMORY bags designed for people living with dementia are being offered at libraries in Denbighshire. Denbighshire County Council s Libraries service is offering a new collection of memory bags which contain a collection of books, poems, artefacts and smells designed to stimulate the senses and promote reminiscence and discussion. They have been themed around the ‘Pictures to Share’ books, designed specifically for people living with dementia, and are part of the Reading Well for Dementia Scheme. The books offer prompts that can help people living with dementia and their family or carers engage in meaningful activities and are ideally suited for use in one to one situations or small groups.
