Queen Charlotte is taking centre stage in a new Bridgerton spin-off series, currently in the works at Netflix.
Created by longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator Chris Van Dusen (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice), Bridgerton is inspired by Julia Quinn’s novels and follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market.
The period drama has been a hit for Netflix, with 82 million households choosing to watch the series in its first four weeks on the service. Now, hot on the heels of renewing the series for Season 3 and 4, Shondaland and Netflix are expanding the Bridgerton universe with a limited series based on the origins of Queen Charlotte.

According to Deadline, Shonda Rhimes, who serves as an executive producer on Bridgerton, will write the prequel.

Speaking during Advertising Week Europe 2021 she explained: “I don’t tend to get star-struck. The one time I did was Michael Palin.
