Former San Diego mayor and California gubernatorial candidate Kevin Faulconer railed against San Francisco’s school board on Wednesday for being more concerned with changing the names of the city’s public schools rather than reopening them.
Faulconer, 54, gave a press conference outside Abraham Lincoln High School, one of 44 San Francisco schools targeted for renaming in recent months because of supposed links to white supremacy. Schools named after Presidents George Washington, William McKinley, James Garfield, James Monroe and Herbert Hoover, also made the chopping block.

The effort to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom is gaining momentum as the Republican Party continues its work to collect signatures by the March deadline.
The California Republican Party announced last week that it would be giving $125,000 to a campaign called Rescue California that s working to recall the governor. The money will be used to hire workers to gather the signatures they need.
Another movement called Recall Gavin 2020 has also been working to collect signatures throughout the state.
According to board members of this movement, in San Luis Obispo County, the Republican Party has collected over 10,000 validated signatures and in Santa Barbara County, they ve collected about 7,000 validated signatures.
The California State Republican Party has just made a substantial financial contribution of $125,000 to the effort to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Tom Del Beccaro, Chairman of Rescue California, and involved with the recall effort from the beginning, said “as the former chairman of the California Republican Party, I am particularly honored to have their financial support at this critical time, and I extend my most grateful thanks and appreciation to CAGOP Chairwoman Jessica Patterson, along with Republican National Committee members Harmeet Dhillon and Shawn Steel, for their decision to give us these decisive extra resources.”
The grassroots campaign has attracted support from millions of Californians who are unhappy with Newsom’s performance. Proponents have until March 17th to turn in 1.5 million validated signatures. GOP Helps Finance Newsom Recall Efforts as Campaign Heats Up
The Republican National Committee is financially backing an effort to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom to the tune of $250,000.
Of that, the California Republican Party (CAGOP) allocated $125,000 to Rescue California, which will put the money toward signature gathering, organizers said Feb. 13.
The other half of the donation is expected to support the recall campaign from other levels.
“We were thrilled to learn that Rescue California had deployed signature gatherers,” said Orrin Heatlie, chairman of the original committee Recall Gavin 2020, said in a press release.
“My volunteers are thrilled that everything that can be done is being done to successfully finish the effort we started nearly a year ago.”
