The MetService is forecasting rain for much of Aotearoa with risk of thunderstorms overnight from Southern Westland up to Waikato.
More heavy rain is forecast for Buller and other areas hit hard by the weekend deluge and flooding. MetService has issued a heavy rain warning for Buller and the ranges of Westland for an 11-hour period, starting from about 6pm on Wednesday till 5am on Thursday. Much of the rest of Aotearoa will also see rain late Wednesday or early Thursday with thunderstorm risk from Southern Westland all the way up to Waikato. MetService meteorologist Tui McInnes said the region could expect showers on Wednesday morning, turning to rain in the evening when the warning will “kick-in”.

Nelson and Westport are both now accessible by the Lewis
Pass and Springs Junction to the south and east, says Waka
Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, following the extensive flooding
of recent days.
“We do need road users to understand
that reopening the highway does not mean it is back to what
it was last week,” says Tresca Forrester, Waka Kotahi
Journey Manager.
“We need everyone’s patience and
care on all upper South Island networks in coming days and
weeks.”
