Daltonganj: One woman died and the other sustained an injury in an IED blast triggered by Maoists at Pandra forest in Garu police station area of Latehar on Saturday. Police said Ravinder Ganjhu’s squad, that exchanged fire with the security forces recently, had laid down the booby trap in the jungles to target the forces.
Latehar SP Prashant Anand, who was overseeing the combing operation in the jungle, said, “The jungle is dotted with numerous improvised explosive devices. Security forces have recovered a good number of land mines. Some blood trails have also been found, which indicate Maoists have suffered injuries too. Police have recovered shoes and walkie-talkie sets.”

CHATRA: In a gruesome crime reminiscent of the Nirbhaya case in Delhi, three men gang-raped a 50-year-old widow and inserted a steel tumbler in her private parts at Kobna village in Huntergunj block of Chatra district late on Thursday night, police said on Friday. The survivor is fighting for her life at a government hospital in neighbouring Bihar where the tumbler was removed after surgery.
Two of the accused, identified as Bablu Paswan and Bittu Paswan, were arrested and while the third was still on the run till the time of filing the report.

RANCHI: In yet another brutal incident of gang-rape in Jharkhand, a 55-year-old widow was gang-raped by three people of her village at Kobna under Hunterganj police Station in Chatra following a dispute over an accident killing her goat about a month ago.
According to the FIR lodged by the woman, she was gang-raped as she was demanding compensation for the goat after it met with an accident with the bike of one of the accused.
The incident came to light only after an FIR was lodged at Hunterganj Police Station on Friday.
“As per the statement recorded by the woman, three people gang-raped her when she was out for defecation late in the evening on Thursday. The incident, according to her, took place following a dispute over an accident killing her goat. Chatra Police busted a gang of interstate opium smugglers on Thursday. The team of four includes Mozibur Rehman, brother of RJD leader Babu Kalal, two more men and a woman. The busted gang had eight kilograms of opium, Rs.4.61lakh cash, a car, one digital weight machine, and two mobile phones in possession, all of which were recovered by the police.
According to the police, this gang has links with Mumbai drug peddlers. An investigation has been initiated in connection with this case.
