PEOPLE are being urged not to travel for the annual Good Friday pilgrimage up Rivington Pike tomorrow and instead stay local. Lockdown restrictions have been eased allowing outdoor gatherings of six people or two households but while the ‘stay at home’ rule has ended, many restrictions remain in place. And people are being advised to minimise the number of journeys they make where possible, and avoid travel at the busiest times and routes. The annual walk up Rivington Pike started as a Christian pilgrimage in the 19th century and now generations of families of all backgrounds have adopted the tradition.
