Kendrick Calilao watched helplessly as his line drive flew straight into the glove of Jacksonville left fielder Tommy Joseph for one final Friday out. Despite a pair of ninth-inning home runs, the Gators failed to overcome a five-run deficit and lost the series opener to Jacksonville 10-9.

Jacob Young’s historic hit streak ended Tuesday, but as he watched his line drive retreat over the left field wall and into the Wednesday night sky, he hardly seemed troubled.
Young’s three-hit, three-RBI night powered the Gators at the plate as they dispatched Stetson 10-7 for their fifth victory in six days.
Stetson struck first at the plate. In the opening inning, designated hitter Hernen Sardinas powered a ground ball between first and second, the first run Florida’s starter Timmy Manning allowed all season.

All-American Jud Fabian cranked out two home runs in a winning effort Tuesday
In Jud Fabian’s first 20 at-bats this season, he had three hits and a single RBI. His .150 batting average was eyebrow-raising for a top-10 prospect and unanimous preseason All-American.
His next plate two appearances were both massive home runs.
A solo shot in the third forced a car to stop along Hull Road after leaving the ballpark. Later,his three-run bomb in the fifth blew the game open, giving the Gators a 5-0 lead they would never relinquish en route to a 8-3 victory.
The ninth inning wasn’t ideal, but the first eight were dominant enough to guide the Gators home for an opening night victory at the new Florida Ballpark.
