Canadian pop duo Tegan and Sara
Amazon-owned free streaming service IMDb TV has greenlit several original series, including a high school drama based on the memoir of Grammy-nominated recording artists Tegan and Sara.
Set against a backdrop of 90s grunge and rave culture, High School follows twin sisters as they try to find their own identities whilst growing up together.
Clea DuVall will write and direct multiple episodes of the half-hour coming-of-age series, which comes from Amazon Studios and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.
High School is part of an overall deal for television between Amazon Studios and Plan B Entertainment, which is also producing The Underground Railroad for the tech giant’s subscription streaming service. The memoir, also titled High School, was published in 2019.

IMDb TV has unveiled three new original unscripted series, as well as a coming-of-age scripted show based on the
New York Times best-selling memoir by Grammy-nominated recording artists Tegan and Sara Quin.
Among the new unscripted titles is
Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary, a five-part miniseries following the award-winning country music star. There is also
Bug Out, an unconventional true-crime docuseries from The Cinemart about a heist involving $50,000 worth of rare live insects from a Philadelphia bug zoo. A yet-to-be-titled Jeff Lewis project, marking the first streaming original home design series from the interior designer, will showcase unique designs, celebrity clientele and never-before-seen creative innovation. All three originals will air exclusively in the U.S. on IMDb TV, Amazon’s premium free streaming service.
“It wasn’t that long ago that I had to tell people what Prime was and then, certainly early in my Amazon career, what Prime Instant Video was,” he tells TheWrap.
While IMDb TV is joining an ever-increasing streaming field, Pirozzi and his fellow co-head of content and programming Lauren Anderson are looking to attract viewers that actually like the kind of shows that used to litter the broadcast and basic cable networks. To make that point, “Law & Order” creator Dick Wolf is doing a cop show for IMDb TV called “On Call.”
